The right
place
The narrative of the short film is based around a shop
keeper who has OCD, because of this obsession this causes him to lose his job
but then finds another job which accepts his eccentric personality. The tittle
‘Right Place’ can be in the sense that it refers to the stores items being in
the right place and also the idea of him searching for his right place in
society which he eventually finds in the end.
The conventions of a short film is through the way that it
revolves around one main idea and one main character it continues to build up
on the main characters personality. There is use of other characters but this
is enforce the main character.
This film has not been produced with high budget production
as aside from the ending credits which involve representation of bones. Many of
the camera shots used in this film were most common camera shots used to show
focus and help elaborate the idea of the shop keeper’s obsession.
The editing of the piece was cleverly constructed as the
techno beat music was introduced along with the main character.
Overall the film achieves so much in a short amount of time.
This film has got a humorous streak running through whilst staying sharp and
entertaining.
Songs in
real life
This is a YouTube video called ‘songs in real life’ it is
about a young man who makes short films based on everyday life. Not like a
normal short film this film contains music as well as dialogue. The main actor
in the film mimics the songs so that it seems as if he is singing. The songs
have been put in various areas of the short film.
This short film contains various camera shots such as close
ups to show the reaction on the characters face also long shots this shows the
setting of the short film and where it is filmed
The audience for this short film is mostly young adults as
they would find it funny on how music has been added in to create an impact.
Both males and females would be interested as they haven’t chosen a specific
audience. This also can relate to the teenagers. The replacement of the songs
is a great way to innovate and present the story as many songs can be put into
contexts and that is what they do.
The camera shots in this short film focus on the face while
they are lip singing the songs which have been synced. This makes the
expressions on their face funnier and adds humour to the story line. During
this short film short reverse to show the conversations going on. This gives
each character a chance to be the main topic, there is also a sense of movement
to the camera when medium shots are used this involves the audience as its made
more exiting as the camera is moving giving it an upbeat feel.
The characters are dressed like stereotypical teenagers with
their oversized backpacks. The scene of the film has been very strongly been
shown to be in a college as they show the classrooms. It makes it more
relatable to the target audience. Dialogue is replaced with songs (non-diegetic
sound) with some of the dialogue left untouched.
Steve is the main character has main focus and gets the main
attention. It gives the film more diversity in the personalities of the characters;
while Steve is the main protagonist, he’s not covered that much more than other
characters. This allows for the other characters to be as important as the main
characters.
Plastic Bag
This is a short film based on a Plastic bag, it was released in 2009. The film is narrated throughout telling the audience the journey of the bag. The bag is travelling through different conditions such as being thrown into the bin and being transferred to different places.
The story really draws in the audience as it can relate to a
person’s life, as when you’re created you have to find someone who loves you and
when they have to go how a person reacts. The only difference in this film is
that the bag can never die. The music fits in perfectly with the film and doesn’t
distract the audience from the narration as its calm.
In this short film there is a lot of use of point of view
shot. This shows the audience along with the narration what’s happening with
the bag. The close up camera shots show specific items which may not have been
narrated. There’s close up of different things such as wildlife and different
animals. Special effects we’re not used in this short film as the director kept
it as minimalistic to keep the simplicity of the film. So it can focus on the bag
only. The story line was generally slow and this maybe to relate to the bag
which hasn’t got anything anymore. Showing the slow paced journey.
For this film there isn’t a specific target audience but I would
say the audience would be people who are mature and are able to understand the
story line. From this I would take the idea of the wanderer’s journey and
explain it in a much greater detail. Also the film is very basic with the music
and narration but has been put together to fit in perfectly.
